Sarah Carson's Twenty-Two Now Available For Pre-Order!

Finishing Line Press announces the publication of Twenty-Two, a chapbook of poems by Sarah Carson A keen observer of the small but significant things around our world and in our own lives, poet Sarah Carson has just had her second chapbook collection of poetry published, this time by Finishing Line Press. Becca Klaver (LA Liminal--Kore Press) says of Twenty-Two: “Sarah Carson pokes fun at the rhetoric of medical surveys, manual labor instructional guides, and employee rules and regulations as a way of saying goodbye to the standardized certainty found in documents that ‘train’ a working-class, female self. ‘I don’t understand the question,’ Carson’s speaker dryly admits; in Twenty-Two, another self finds a new language, and her starkly funny confessions revise the terms, rewrite the surveys, and lay out a new set of rules.” This small collection of poetry follows her recently-released chapbook Before OnStar (Etched Press, 2010), further delving into the issues facing the working class. Says Brandi Homan (Hard Reds & Bobcat Country—Shearsman Books), “Sarah Carson’s Twenty-Two grapples with class and gender issues as if at the end of a kaleidoscope, the rough edges of bitter rocks/words/events tumbling against one another to create a landscape that’ s familiar yet not quite. In plainspoken language that nonetheless burns like a welding torch, Carson illuminates the ridiculous hoops we navigate as we attempt to negotiate the confluence of our working and personal lives.” Sarah Carson was born and raised in Flint, Michigan but now lives in Chicago where she serves as an associate editor at RHINO and as the Communications Specialist at Switchback Books. Her poetry has appeared or is forthcoming in Barrow Street, Diagram, Epiphany, Limestone, Poet Lore, Strange Machine, and Slipstream, among others. Finishing Line Press is a poetry publisher based in Georgetown, Kentucky. In addition to the Chapbook Series, it publishes the New Women’s Voices Series and sponsors the Finishing Line Press Open Chapbook Competition. Publication Date: May 27, 2011
