Judy Chicago - The Dinner Party: From Creation to Preservation
Join us as we welcome world-famous feminist artist Judy Chicago and celebrate the release of the book, The Dinner Party: From Creation to Preservation, about the artist’s most iconic exhibition, now on permanent display at the Brooklyn Museum’s Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art. A monumental installation project, The Dinner Partywas created, between 1974-1979, as a symbolic history of women in Western civilization. It employs numerous traditional arts & crafts media, including ceramics, china-painting, and an array of needle and fiber techniques. Chicago will discuss the project and its recent history and incarnation in book form, and take questions from the audience. This event is free and open to the public.
"Most women fight wars on two fronts, one for whatever the putative topic is and one simply for the right to speak, to have ideas, to be acknowledged to be in possession of facts and truths, to have value, to be a human being. Things have certainly gotten better, but this war won't end in my lifetime. I'm still fighting it, for myself certainly, but also for all those younger women who have something to say, in the hope that they will get to say it."
